Pacifica -- Montara -- Moss Beach -- El Granada -- Half Moon Bay

   San Mateo County is located on the San Francisco Peninsula, between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay. On the bay side, you'll find such cities as San Mateo, Daly City, San Bruno and Foster City. The Pacific side is home to the smaller towns of Pacifica, Moss Beach and Half Moon Bay.
   San Mateo County offers plenty of natural attractions, from the San Mateo Coast State Beaches and Portola Redwoods State Park to Año Nuevo State Reserve, site of the annual return of the elephant seals.
   The county is home to historic mansions and lighthouses, and sports fans can participate in golf, tennis, water sports and horse racing. Regional museums also run the gamut, from the traditional collections at the San Mateo County History Museum to the unique offerings at the American Antique Slot Machine Museum and the Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia.
   More than 700,000 residents live in San Mateo County, which spans a mere 449 square miles. In 2000, the median value of owner-occupied housing units was $469,200.
