BeachesThere are several beaches near San Pedro, but the most popular is Cabrillo Beach. The beach has two distinct areas: the one outside the breakwater offers swirling ocean surf, which is perfect for surfers and divers; the other within the harbor offers gentle waves, which appeal more toward families with children or those seeking a leisurely walk along the beach. Other amenities include swimming, windsurfing, volleyball and picnic areas.Cabrillo Beach is also known as a great whale-watching location, and it's one of the few sites in California to see the grunion, a silvery fish that leaves the water twice a month to lay its eggs in the sand under a full or new moon. For a more intimate experience, check out the sea anemones and other creatures in the tide pools at Royal Palms State Beach. Or take a stroll on one of San Pedro's other smaller beaches.
