Garden City

Garden City History

Garden City is a family-friendly town nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the tributaries of Murrells Inlet. The unincorporated community straddles Horry and Georgetown counties, about 10 miles south of Myrtle Beach.
Nearby Surfside Beach calls itself "The Family Beach," but Garden City certainly gives it a run for the money. More than 9,300 residents call Garden City home, from young families to retirees. Visitors also enjoy the seaside environment, and the town has hundreds of cottages and condominiums to house its seasonal guests.
With access to both the Atlantic and Murrells Inlet, Garden City is a hot spot for fishing. The South Carolina coast offers some of the best Atlantic seafood around, and the inlet's saltwater marshes and eddies are bursting with crabs, oysters and fish.
Garden City is a relatively new town, but it's growing in popularity as more visitors discover its natural charms. Along with the neighboring city of Surfside Beach, the region also serves as bedroom community to bustling Myrtle Beach, providing small-town living within a short drive of big-city excitement.

Activities

Garden City offers a spacious beach with events such as the Sun Fun Kids Fair and the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. You can enjoy a variety of water-based activities, including fishing, surfing, swimming and boating. For those who prefer to stay on land, the community offers walking, bird watching, tennis and shopping.
The Pier at Garden City offers old-fashioned arcades, ice cream shops, a batting cage and other family-oriented activities. North of town in Myrtle Beach, you'll find miniature golf, water parks and theaters along with a host of water sports, including parasailing, kayaking, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving.
Indian Wells Golf Club, located right on Garden City Beach, features an unique blend of sand, surf and trees. The 410-yard ninth hole is a part of the Grand Strand's original "Dream 18." Course designers have protected the region's natural habitat and indigenous wildlife while giving golfers a beautiful and challenging course.
