Litchfield BeachLitchfield Beach HistoryLitchfield Beach is located in South Carolina's historic Low Country, which stretches from Myrtle Beach south to the Georgia border. The unincorporated community is aligned with neighboring Pawleys Island, which has served as a popular summer beach resort for more than 200 years.The town takes its name from Litchfield Plantation, an oak-shaded rice plantation located on the Waccamaw River. The former manor house now serves as the lodge for the Litchfield Country Club. Litchfield Beach was established in 1978. The resort community is located on Waccamaw Neck, which is the fastest-growing area of Georgetown County. Litchfield Beach is seeing its own growth spurt as well, with several businesses and apartment complexes sprouting up in the last few years. ActivitiesThe Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort offers a variety of activities, including golf, tennis, racquetball, swimming, dining and fitness classes. The resort has three plantation golf courses -- the Litchfield Country Club, Willbrook Plantation and River Club -- and its tennis facilities have been ranked No. 7 in the nation by Tennis magazine.Beaches in this area are among the widest and best-preserved on the South Carolina coast.
